How would a very low school rank (think 583 low) effect my atar/chances of getting state ranking/etc. ?
I really want an atar of 95+ - is this still possible? How hard would it be?

As long as you do really well in your HSC subjects, there shouldn't be a problem. My cousin who went to a low rank school got a 96 ATAR and earned it with hard work and dedication.

atar of 95+ is usually ranked 1st or 2nd(mostly 1st) in all your subjects.Check to see if your school fluctuates alot on the ranking, as the low school ranks tend to fluctuate alot more, which means that sometimes your school gets a good cohort in the HSC, which means you dont need 1st or 2nd in all but maybe 3rd or 4th in one or two subjects instead. If it stays relatively in the 500s and high 400s, then 1st or 2nd in everything as before. And not to say anything, but the higher scaling subjects which are popular like chem, ex1 maths etc, don't think too much about a state rank, those get very much dominated by the top schools, unless your really confident and you've been getting basically perfect scores in year 11 and 12.
