Hi,

I've got this SOR I assignment that I've been doing over the holidays and I need some more help with it. The question is:
"Evaluate the role of sacred writings and stories in both Chrisitanity and Islam"

If anyone has any ideas or references that I could use, they would be much appreciated.

Thx

Sacred texts:
Qur'an
Hadiths

Some English translations of the Qur'an are incorrect/misleading, like I think a Cambridge one...you can find good translations copies in a islamic bookstore or mosque
For stories, there are lots of different books about the prophets and messengers..go to local islamic bookstore or local mosque

an obvious sacred text in Christianity is the Bible of course...
theres moral and ethnic teachings there..through parables n Jesus' teachings n stuff...
there are prayers that are recited through every mass..eg. the Creed [forgot which one..^^;.. the Apostle's Creed of the Nicene Creed?!]

and as said by Chand, the Qur'an + Hadiths and others if u look in the library or even search on net.. are basically written laws for Muslims... the text's basically almost controls their lives... as what they eat, believe and dress in etc are from these sacred texts...

so the role of sacred texts for especially Islam is highly significant~ :uhhuh:

For Christianity, you need to be specific as "the bible" doesnt really cut it. From the syllabus:
"Christianity: extracts from Old Testament; New Testament"
therefore you need to actually name specific passages.

The same goes for the Islamic side as well. Again, from the syllabus
"Islam: extracts from Qur’an; Hadith; Sunna ".

I would start with your textbook or even some of the notes from this site and build from there
*waits for the question-"where are the notes?"*

LOL just joking....

But make sure that there is a balance between your "religions" though (this should be a marking criteria in the top band as its one in the HSC)
