I haven't had my pulse on the music scene for a year or so, now. So, I would like you guys to recommend some bands for me to listen to. Add spice to my day.

Here are some bands I love:

Brand New
Bright Eyes
Cursive
Say Anything
Modest Mouse
Queens of the Stone Age
The Arcade Fire
The Pixies
The Unicorns

Bright Eyes - I'd be giving Sufjan Stevens a go, start with "Michigan" or "Illinoise" - try the track Casimir Pulaski Day for an idea. Can't look past some classic Nick Drake either, grab "Pink Moon". Depending on what kind of Bright Eyes you like, Digital Ash kind of stuff or Wide Awake stuff you could also try Devendra Banhart, "Rejoicing in the Hands" is a good album to start with. Iron and Wine's "Endless Numbered Days" is also good here

As for the others, Ugly Casanova's album "Sharpen Your Teeth" might be alright once again depending on the modest mouse sound you like, it's pretty much Isaac and co. minus one member and sounds like "This is a long drive .."

Probably give Yo La Tengo a go, Phoenix, Weezer's "Blue Album" has a similar feel to Bossanova imo, could give them a go too.

here are some good starters:
grandaddy (now it's on, elevate myself)
seachange-beck (round the bend, lost cause, lonesome tears)
pet sounds- beach boys (the whole album's good)
in the aeroplane over the sea- neutral milk hotel (in the aeroplane over the sea)
crooked rain- pavement (cut your hair)
different class- pulp (underwear, common people. . .this whole album's good too)
this is hardcore- pulp (help the aged, this is hardcore, dishes)

if you like pulp, listen to the smiths (self titled, the queen is dead and for songs d/l 'there is a light that never goes out', 'bigmouth strikes again)
if you like seachange, get some serge gainsbourg (initiales b.b, cannabis) or nick drake (pink moon)
if you like neutral milk hotel, listen to other elephant 6 bands
if you like pavement, get some 90's stuff; the sonic youth pop albums (goo, dirty, daydream nation), dinosaur jr, guided by voices, stephen malkmus

listen to my recs! because my recs > everyone elses and a lot of stuff people have put up is unacclaimed or unrelated to yr taste.
