Situation 1: Kid A is first in mx1 in yr 12 and scores 70/84 on all his internal exams. In the externals he scores 70/84 (highest in his year) and recives HSC mark (aligned and the that bullshit) of Y.

Situation 2: Kid A (same kid, same school) in 5th on mx1 in yr 12 and scores 70/84 on all his internals. in externals he scores 70/84 (5th highest in his year) and gets hsc mark Z

will Y be the same as Z?

NO, y will not be the same as z for many reasons. A large factor in determining your HSC mark is your rank and mark in the external HSC exam. It also depends on how your school performs in the external HSC exam and how good the state goes in the HSC exam. Your situation doesn't really make sense however the kid coming 1st will come 1st in the school in his HSC result as no one can beat first even if he fails the HSC, however 2nd, 3rd,4th...etc rank can be beaten by those behind them if they go well in the external HSC exam.

They will have very similar marks. However, for situation 2, it depends on how the rest of the year goes to determine his internal mark.

they're 2 different scenerio's and i'm trying to determine how much rank matters if your INTERNAL and EXTERNAL marks and the same
the question is will your hsc mark change if your internal/external marks stay the same but rank drops
