Just wondering if i came 2nd in my class by 1 mark (let's say...i got 92 and first got 93) although in the HSC i get a mark of 94 (actual raw exam mark) and they get a mark of around 90.. would i end up getting the higher mark or will it even off or will they end up getting the higher mark?

Let's say the subject was mathematics or Business Studies

In your case:

Person in 1st position: External mark: 90; Moderated assessment mark = the highest external mark acheived by the cohort
You in 2nd position: External mark 94; Moderated assessment mark = roughly the second highest external mark acheived by the cohort

The average of the external mark and the moderated assessment will be your final HSC mark.

Apparently they take into account relative differences

Kind of.
The mean i think of the total exam marks must equal the total of the moderated assessment marks and therefore its not so much relative gaps.

Yes, that's why I said "roughly" the second highest mark achieved by the cohort for a 2nd ranked student, which will depend on the gap from internal assessment marks between first and second, and second and third.
