Just a few questions from my homework sheet, don't have my textbook on me atm, so thought i'd ask hehe.

1) How do you get the Opening Stock, I have the the Sales, Purcahses and Closing Stock.

& also,

2) What Proportion of stock costs are due to cartage, is that just Cartage of Purchases / Purchase to show the percentage that the cartage cost.

been a while since i did business, but for the first one:
opening + purchases - sales = closing
so
opening= closing - purchases + sales
(i'm pretty sure that's right)

Seems pretty right to me,
though yeah, i did it that way and seems alright.
