3 Simple questions (I apologise if these have been asked hitherto)

1. Does finance have as many career opportunities as the other majors, and if so, what does this entail? Because ACCT is boring as .. And econ, what jobs can you get? Looking in the careers section, there's only a rare 'economist' ad.

2. CA/CPA? Which one's better?

3. Who seriously likes commerce/econ and believes it's a fufilling career?

1. The career opportunities for finance are very good. Those opportunities are broad - investments management and stockbroking, securities trading, financial analysis and planning, banking. Finance is extremely boring though IMO.
Econ - job prospects are fairly poor, I imagine you would have to complete an honours year to be competitive for a position.

2. CA is regarded to be the more prestigious qualification and is more difficult to attain. I don't think there is a huge difference between the two. Most accountants in Australia are CPA's, however, if you want to work for a top tier firm like Ernst + Young or PWC, then you should be aiming for the CA qualification.

3. I would hate to work in finance or be an econometrician, but I think accounting and marketing are quite interesting. Commerce/eco provides a potentially fulfilling career as long as you choose majors you're interested in.

Thanks for that! I'm just deciding whether to drop commerce or not, since I have no idea what to major in, and nothing really seems to stand out or interest me greatly.
