are case study questions always in in the 20 mark questions or could it be a short question as well?

It wont be short answer for a 20 mark question. Question 25 will be a stimulus response involving graphs or a quote or something. Question 26 could be an 'explain' or 'discuss' or 'analyse' essay question such as last years: "Explain how Australia's labour market policies have affected work practices and employment".

You get a choice from two for both extended response questions. Q27 or 28 may involve your globalisation case study.

No HSC examination has included the case study in any other section other than in the extended response section.

Also, every HSC to date has given students an alternative (i.e. one question is a case study q, and the other isn't).

However if you are going to take the presumption that because of this you don't need to know a case study; be careful as you may have difficulties answering the other question. Its an insurance policy to know your case study.
