If for example BoS is only considering our marks from external exams, then does a band 6 in physics mean you need get 90/100 in the final exam?

Thanks

Band 6 means ALIGNED MARK of 90/100.

ALIGNED MARK depends on your RAW MARK (i.e. what you actually get on exam paper).

I read on biki about the definition of marks but i am still unsure. So is the aligned mark the exam mark adjusted so it is out of 100?

Yeah, you are right.

If you look at Mathematics exam, it is out of 120. Whatever we get out of that 120 is called RAW MARK. This raw mark is adjusted to ALIGNED MARK depending on how you performed.

i see. this is really ambiguous. you are referring to aligned hsc marks. because there are also aligned exam marks and aligned assessment marks.

I am sorry. I got into different track.

I was referring to average aligned mark. Sorry again for my absurdity.

nah. nothing to be sorry about. there is heaps of terminology out there and heaps of jargon used, it does really get confusing. because you can never tell if someone is using the general english meaning term, or the term with the specific meaning described by the board or uac.

No, it will be different. Particular raw mark gets particular aligned mark.

Your raw mark can be the same as your aligned mark. It all depends on how the align them.

They are different.

Aligning is done by a panel of HSC markers to match the marks with the Performance Descriptor Bands so that it is possible to compare marks from year to year in a particular subject.

Scaling is done by the UAC computer to weight the subjects depending on the quality of the candidates that did each subject each year. This is so that the UAIs are able to give a rank order to the candidature this year.
