Hi there everyone,

I am a current Year 12 Student that won't be a in a few days :)

In September I applied for the UNSW Co-op Scholarship. Today I logged in to be surprised that I was accepted into the next stage: the interview.

Here is my situation: I was reading online and through the UAC guide 2010 and I saw there the minimum ATAR they expect is going to be 90+ regardless of whether a person passes or does not pass an interview.

Now I know truly well in my heart that I cannot get an ATAR of that level and so I was thinking of declining the interview so someone else could get a chance. Now I have decided to do exactly that, but before I did so I wanted to know that if I decline the interview offer will someone else be assigned to it?

Thank you to everyone who views this thread.

if you have a great interview then you are given a conditional offer, not a scholarship.

the offer of the full scholarship is conditional on you receiving an ATAR high enough.

so best case is you get an offer and get the required ATAR (dont put yourself down, its not unheard of for people to do much better than they expected)
other case is you get the conditional offer and you dont get a 90+ ATAR. in this case they offer the scholarship to somebody else on the waiting list who did meet the required ATAR. if this person rejects the scholarship (or didnt meet the required ATAR) they go onto the next person until someone accepts. so you can still get the scholarship, some people might under perform, others may not want the scholarship

so there is no harm in going for the interview.

That 90+ requirement does not include bonus points though. Realistically, it is not hard to get 5 through the HSC plus program. Similiarly, the academic achivement award, or the Access scheme can add another 5 points. It is probably best to just do the interview, you never know what your ATAR and hence selection rank may be after the bonus points.
