Is the title of the next James Bond film. It was announced overnight at a press conference at Pinewood Studios. The following synopsis is taken from the press release:
QUANTUM OF SOLACE continues the high octane adventures of James Bond (DANIEL CRAIG) in CASINO ROYALE. Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (JUDI DENCH) interrogate Mr White (JESPER CHRISTENSEN) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (OLGA KURYLENKO), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (MATHIEU AMALRIC), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (JOAQUIN COSIO). Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organisation.
Sounds interesting to say the least. This has probably superseded The Dark Knight as the film I'm looking forward to the most this year. It's due out in cinemas some time in November.

And if you don't ike the title, you shoul know that's it's pure In Fleming. It's taken from on of his most interesting short stories (though the story won't serve as a basis of the story as it has very little action and is really a character study of Bond).

Yeah, that's been known for ages. But Forster is an excellent director; I'm sure he'll do admirably.

Strange title.
It's the title of a short story that appeared in the For Your Eyes Only collection. This is taken from the Wiki articule:
"Quantum of Solace" is not a spy story and Bond appears only in the background. Told in the style of W Somerset Maugham the tale has Bond attending a boring dinner party at the Government House in Nassau with a group of socialites he can't stand.
Bond makes a remark after dinner when the other guests have left in order to stimulate conversation, about always having thought it would be nice to marry an air hostess. This solicits a careful reply from the elderly Governor of The Bahamas who tells 007 a sad tale about a relationship between a former civil servant he calls Philip Masters, stationed in Bermuda, and air hostess Rhoda Llewellyn. After meeting aboard a flight to London the two eventually married but after a time Rhoda became unhappy with her life as a housewife. She then began a long open affair with the eldest son of a rich Bermudan family. As a result Masters' work deteriorated and he suffered a nervous breakdown. After recovering he was given a break from Bermuda by the governor and sent on an assignment to Washington to negotiate fishing rights with the US. At the same time the governor's wife had a talk with Rhoda just as her affair ended. Masters returned a few months later and decided to end his marriage, although he and Rhoda continued to appear as a happy couple in public. Masters returned alone to the UK, leaving a penniless Rhoda stranded in Bermuda, an act which he'd been incapable of carrying out merely months earlier. But Masters never recovered emotionally, nor recaptured any spark of vitality. The governor goes on to tell Bond how after a time Rhoda married a rich Canadian and seems to be happy. When Bond remarks that she hardly deserved her good fortune, the governor says that Masters had always been rather weak, and that perhaps Fate chose Rhoda as its instrument to teach him a lesson. Bond deduces that the dinner companions whom he found so boring were Rhoda and her new husband, and he tells the governor she was much more interesting than he had thought.
While the story does not include action elements, as other Fleming tales do, it attempts to posit that Bond's adventures pale in comparison with real life drama. Bond reflects that the lives of the people he passes somewhat superficial judgements upon can in fact hide poignant episodes.
Evidently, this won't be appearing in the film, but it's the origin of the title. And here is the passage of the book where Fleming exaplains what the Quantum of Solace is:
The Governor paused and looked reflectively over at Bond. He said: “You’re not married, but I think it’s the same with all relationships between a man and a woman. They can survive anything so long as some kind of basic humanity exists between the two people. When all kindness has gone, when one person obviously and sincerely doesn’t care if the other is alive or dead, then it’s just no good. That particular insult to the ego—worse, to the instinct of self-preservation—can never be forgiven. I’ve noticed this in hundreds of marriages. I’ve seen flagrant infidelities patched up, I’ve seen crimes and even murder forgiven by the other party, let alone bankruptcy and every other form of social crime. Incurable disease, blindness, disaster—all these can be overcome. But never the death of common humanity in one of the partners. I’ve thought about this and I’ve invented a rather high-sounding title for this basic factor in human relations. I have called it the Law of the Quantum of Solace.”
Any questions?

Will there be swimming trunks in this film?
Producer Barbra Broccoli is "insisting" on them, though the comment was made in jest.

Sounds pretty good as a movie. I'm not sure about the title. :( I'm dissapointed that what's-his-face, the director of Goldeneye and Casino Royale, won't be returning. It's clear that he knows how to make a good Bond movie.

Let's hope that it doesn't degenerate into pure shit like DAD did. That movie was awful.

Trust me, they won't. The producers have said they know what happned there, and they know what went wrong and that they won't be going there again any time soon.

Shooting is currently underway in Panama; it will stand in for Bolivia in the film.

Bregenz in Austria has finally been confirmed, with reports suggesting Bond will have a fight during a performance of the opera Tosca, the stage for which is being constructed on a lake.

Macchu Piccu in Peru is rumoured to be another shooting location, though the film doesn't actually visit Peru (insofar as anyone knows); it's possible these are just going to be background shots as the city is very recognisable.

IMdB is alos reporting Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty has a minor role in the film, but they're the only ones reporting it. I sincerely hope this is untrue; Shetty should never be allowed near the franchise as she has Bond Girl Syndrome. Every time a new film is announced, actors come out announcing that they are in negotiations for the leading lady part and are often days (or even hours) away from signing a contract. They never actually have anything to do wih the franchise and are just using the films to draw attention to themselves. Shilpa Shetty was one of the dozen who did it for Quantum of Solace (including the Olsen Twins (!!!), but they stated they didn't want their characters to do anything sexual), and should therefore never be allowed in one: she's more concerned with her image than with making the films.

Rumours are also persisting that Amy Winehouse is the clear favourite for the title theme, though this has been fuelled by trashy tabloid newspapers like The Sun, who have variously run stories that the production crew have started a gangland war in Panama by accident and are having their equipment stolen, that Daniel Craig is afraid of heights, cannot drive manual cars, wants to have a gay scene in the next film and that the title was to be Aquator, none of which have proven true. Oddly, The Sun always runs a story saying they were right all along when they are proven wrong.

It seems the producers have managed to piss the entire country of Chile off; the Chileans don't much appreciate being portrayed as neighbours Bolivia, with whom they have a ot ofbad blood (the region they're filming in was Bolivian territory until Chile seized it a hundred years ago). Protesters have been sighted waving Chilean flags and Carlos Lopez, mayor of the region gate-crashed filming at an abandoned train station in Baqueando, claiming the production crew had not informed him of their intentions to film and had not shown him the permits, but then he went on a nationalistic rant on Chilean television, so it's obvious he was just using the issue of filming permits as a pretext to make a song and dance about the grievous offences to national pride. Senor Lopez, I'd be amazed if the casual movie-goer can tell the difference between sections of desert in Chile and sections of the same desert in Bolivia. And possibly a little concerned.

I'm not entirely sure what you expect them to do. It's not like they can go an film in Bolivia because there wouldn't exactly be any support or infrastructure for the film on account of the fact that it's South American's poorest country. And besides, with the plot surrounding an attempted coup d'etat in Bolivia, it doesn't exactly portray their government and politics in the most positivie of lights. I doubt you'd want them to change the script to be Chile instead of Bolivia for the same reasons (and a lot of it has already been filmed). Nor is there a massive observatory in Bolivia. You might not like the country standing in for Bolivia, but you didn't have any problems with it when you were standing in for Mars, as most films on that subject are shot in the Atacama desert ...

The title singer has finally been announced: Jack White of The White Stripes and Alicia Keys will be performing the franchise's first duet entitled Another Way to Die, which was written by White, who will also serve as produer and drummer.
