Police, unis brace for student demos
March 30, 2004
POLICE and student unions have consulted ahead of protests tomorrow to ensure the violence that marred last week's demonstrations is not repeated.
Rallies have been planned in each state capital tomorrow in what has been described by the National Union of Students as "a resurgence in student radicalism".
...
Demonstrations are expected in New South Wales, although police would not disclose their projected patrol numbers around university sites.
"It is up to the individual campuses to request extra security if they so desire," a NSW Police spokesman said.
Sydney University staff said they had prepared for the protests by "heightening the security presence".
NUS education officer Paul Coats said: "We've heard reports of furniture being moved out of the main building at another (Sydney) campus, which indicates the level of protest they're expecting."

Agreed. It's their excuse to have a day out to eat and have a good time, c'mon they should of made something more directly instead of a rally, and besides talk about on time they do it right on the census date.Originally posted by KeypadSDM
It's funny that they're bribing people to show up, defeating the very concept of this rally.
they are still paying for it one way or anotherOriginally posted by santaslayer

Exactly.
So the only reason I might actually turn up is for the free food.
The rally won't do anything ...
yeah, protests are more or less useless- its just there so ppl. can take out their frustrations by screaming a few slogans, and burning a couple of american flags.Originally posted by Wyvern
