So, what's your school's policy on dropping a subject?

My school has this policy where you have to stay in the course for the 3 first weeks of the Term 4 to see whether you like the course or not...

And you are not allowed to drop a subject during that 3 weeks.

I guess, I still have 3 weeks with good old chety.

I think we have a few weeks to see if we want to drop as well. I think it's abit different with 4U Maths though. Our school makes us do the first 2U test just in case we drop it later.

Nice MySpace by the way Namu. :D

Mine has no real policy. You just drop it when you want, provided that you have the minimum 10 Units.

I'm a bit confused by that.

Do we 4uint'ers sit in 2U Math classes?

Nope, 4U people just do the 3U and 4U tests. It's just that my school makes everyone do the 2U paper in case some of them drop (tons of people here do 4U, so it's just a precaution).

I think you do. You sit the classes but you don't have to do the assessments.

In my school you just hand a note in to the Director of Studies.

I understand the thing with the tests, but I'm not too sure if 4u'ers sit in the actual classes of 2u'ers. I wouldn't mind it ...

lyounamu, your school's policy sounds exactly the same as the school i got to and me not happy about it. 3 f@#$%n weeks of chem

as for attending 2u classes, you still have to cause 2u maths is assumed knowledge for 4u

Yeah, Facebook > MySpace. :)

Oh my bad my bad. We get separate classes for everything. There's separate classes for 4U, 3U and 2U. It's different for every school though I think.

we have to talk to our teacher and head of senior studies, get their signatures, parents signatures and multiple other's signatures, then we can drop.

the teacher & head of SS usually discuss why the subject wants to be dropped etc.

edit: until the forms are handed in, you have to attend the class.
That sounds like a waste of paper and time.

That's the policy that we adopt, I think...

Yeah, I will probably get countless verbal assults from my teachers, parents and friends during that process...lol

What's Chety, Lyounamu?
Well, our school's policy is...well....just don't turn up to class, and tell the Deputy Principal. If you don't turn up to class - they'll get the message. :p

My school's a real pain in the ass when it comes to dropping...these are the 'fun' steps:
- You must make sure that even after you drop - you're not sitting on 10 units.
- Interview with Curriculum Coordinator
- Get a form and get signatures from parents, subject teacher, subject coordinator, bookhire (to make sure we've returned all our books), curriculum coordinator and your own signature
- Get a new timetable and you can't leave your class until this is done.

Nah, I was sorta half joking. You have to tell the Deputy first. :p

at our school you have to get a form:
on the form you have to write:
-Your Current Subjects (including the one your dropping)
-Have you units counted and checked by the Careers Adviser.
-Nominate if your going for a UAI
-Have it signed by Head of the Subject (your dropping), Youe subject teacher (of what you are dropping) then have it signed by the HEad of Senior School, then sign it yourself and it then gets submitted to the Head of Senior School or Principal.

Parents do not have to sign, but you have a discussion with the Head of Senior School & Careers Adviser about what you wish to do, and why you are dropping this subject.

EDIT: you also have to follow the same system for taking up a subject such as Extensions and dropping a level, I had to fill out 3 forms ahhhhhhh it was so tedious.
