Problems with Syllabus (1 Viewer)

i'm doing chemistry(hsc course) n the syllubus says stuff about "ethylene", and the text book dont have nothing about it, so is it like the same as ethene or what :confused:
will someone please explain cause i'm like trying to summarize n i cant do much without knowing what it means

ethylene is the same thing as ethene... so therefore polyethylene is the same thing as polyethene or even polythene

ethylene=ethen= CH2=CH2

ethene is the systematic name and ethylene is the common name prefered by IUPAC (the international chemistry body). its just like poly(vinyl chloride) is the common name and poly(chloroethene) is the systematic name for PVC.

When they took out the 15% of the syllabus last October they also for some reason changed all the reference of C<sub>2</sub>H<sub>4</sub> from ethene to ethylene. In an exam I don't think it would matter which one you use (at least I hope it doesn't).

It might be an idea to move this thread to the Chemistry section.
