I've been curious about this since starting uni.

At school they gave out certificates for people who came first (also second and third) in subjects. Do they do that at uni? Do they do it at the end of each semester, is there a presentation night or something?

I have seen a page that has all the 'prizes' (I assume certificates) listed, so I know they do something along these lines.

I still have never heard anything about it around the uni though.

I have heard about people from certain divisions with a GPA over a certain amount having a presentation night.

edit: rofl i thought i started a thread about this before and i did but it was slightly different.

I think they give out things for people who come first in the unit and things like that. And then there are special.. ugh.. things, like competitions, in some faculties (check out the front of the handbook) and I assume winners get some certificate or something along those lines.

... Not that I'll ever put enough effort in to know!

Most of the prizes come at the end of your Bachelor, but before honours.

The handbook lists most of them, but unlike the really specific prizes, like Blogg's Prize for Magenta opteoelectronics (ok, I made that up, but they're pretty specific), the Philosophy and History prizes are really broad and hence competitive.

I do remember seeing some prizes that are awarded before then, but I'm sure they're in the handbook like Yvy said.

oh yes. the annual 'major essay prize' for ahst101. it Almost beats the Phil134 'have the highest number of instances of pointing out a mistake the lecturer makes prize' which is actually a bottle of rum. i really miss phil134:logic.. sigh.

did you get a HD for comp115 when you did it?
cos apparently you get a letter from ICS department

my friends got a letter for isys123, and of all subjects, you would expect isys to have a fair few HD students

I got all HDs, and I never got one letter other than the one from my lecturer inviting me to some conference.

oooh! I doubt I'd go well in law units, though.
