Ever read The Power of One? The story itself is very touching indeed.

Nineteen-eighty-four and Catch-22 are powerful books

This is stating the obvious really, most classics are powerful

Yeah, both of Orwell's major works, (1984 and Animal Farm) are pretty heavy. Both of them drag on towards the end though.

Wurthering Heights is pretty powerful, although only during the last quarter of the book the rest of it spends too long setting it up.

Yeah it does have Renee Zellweger. I never thought the book was all that great. By powerful, do you mean depressing?

Animal farm is shorter and easier to read. The messages and historical parrallels are pretty heavy but are pretty easily ignored, in my mind anyway.

"The hours" is very good. Very well written. Powerful or not is subjective.

I mean it's powerful in the impact it left on me. It took me awhile longer to read because it is depressing but it's a story that you cannot forget easily or leave it without it impacting you....Just made me appreciate how fate hasn't come along and screwed with my life.
