Does anyone know of any good locations on campus that:
a) have a good wireless network signal
b) have a 240V socket nearby

I know the uni rules say there are no 'charging facilities' but there are bound to be power points around. I guess this thread is a list of powerpoints around the place that are handy.

- SAM Cafe - outside the main entrance, under the stair case to upper level, there is an out door powerpoint with a good wireless signal.

- Mason Theatre - towards the front (about 3rd, 4th row) there is a powerpoint under the seats on the lectern side of the theatre

Post your other findings here so for those of us who are low on juice can recharge whilst still working!

I guess there is always trial and error.

Or you could get them industrial power extension cables. ;)

*visions of people roaming around with powercables/LAN cables trailing after them like some big Nike commercial, yet for some nerd thing*

I doubt the university would be impressed if we started snaking extension leads all over the place but - in extremes it could be done !
Why is the University so strict about us laptop people and powerpoints anyway - i was a little surprised not to find any tables in the library (so far) that don't have power points near them.

Are you allowed to use that whenever you feel like - or is it for specific people/times?

Power points are everywhere, just not exactly the most comfy position to use a laptop at times, library has tons, e7b lower level has em, well...lotsa of em, just look around

I noticed there are heaps on the walls on the second/third levels - like blocks of them - unless i am remembering incorrectly. Would uni staff get narky at you using them for a laptop, or do they just turn a blind eye?

If they're in a shitty mood, or you somehow attract attention, they'll get you.

Otherwise (80% of the time), they'll just ignore you.

Then again, librarians have a notoriously large power-trip status. Librarians = Macquarie as RTA = Aussie society.

Don't feel left out!
You gave an answer to a question, however there was no ambiguity to it - so it didn't need to be debated ie - most likely no one would care if they were used for laptops if you wish to use them, but for when you aren't in a lecture environement, that's where problems start

E6A Block.

They renovated the main foyer in the E6A block, it has powerpoints and i have seen people using their laptops, not only that, but it has to be the coolest building there is, it is very well air conditioned and ventilated.

I was using one of the powerpoints in E7B ground level today, sitting on the floor. That seemed to work fine.

Level 3, on the right, just after you go up the stairs - turn around the corner, and there are two powerpoints there. Library staff got kinda narky after i'd been there for 2 hours - but they didnt kick me out or anything, so oh well.

E7A and E7B...i'll make a note to check those out :D
