How would I play the F notes in the left hand between 0:35 and 0:42? I love how it's the perfect mix of staccato and legato and I'd love to play it like that cos it adds a certain effect to that theme, which I really love. I followed the pedal and the staccato markings on the score, but I can't seem to replicate it :(

Any tips on pedalling + how to strike those F notes to achieve that effect? The sound that I'm trying to achieve can be more clearly heard from the F played at 7:18

Also, how would you guys tackle the monstrous variation of the main theme starting at 3:11?

I'd also like help on the section between 7:31 and 7:43. How would you guys play the mismatching polyrhythms of the left and right hands (i.e. the sets of 7-against-3, 10-against-6) etc.? I'm fine with 2-against-3 but these more complex ones are really hard.

No rush btw, I've made less than stellar progress on my three assessments during these holidays and better get cracking :(

For the F if you can't play it normally, you can you the rubato that's in the recording. i.e. slow down then speed up again, then replicate that again...
It's perfectly acceptable as that's one of the things that are typical of chopins music

As with the pedal, I can't really hep you there as I don't know how you're playing it and I don't really know how to explain it (sorry)

At 3:11, again you can hear the rubato, to play the polyrhythm the only thing you can do is practice. Putting the rubato in this one is pretty hard, so I would suggest practicing slow without the expression (rubato/ cresc and dim and without the pedal) and then slowly put that it later.

Again in 7:31 that's all you can do ^^^. but when even I want to practice polyrhythms, i just get it perfect with my hands first (e.g. learn to tap 7 with one and and 3 with the other -try on the table or on your legs).

Sorry for not being helpful, but it's kind of hard to explain how to do these things without demonstrating or at least seeing how you, yourself play them

I got how to do the F thing :D I half pedalled and released and that did the trick, although it doesn't (and never will) sound as good as Rubenstein's way of playing it

Thanks for the idea, I'm going to 'cheat' with those more complex polyrhythms by using rubato within them, and it probably sounds better that way too :)

Yeah I'll try to tackle 3:11 with slow practice (and a lot of it).

Aha you did help, and thanks :)
