A couple of questions;
Does this course use Halliday and Resnick, or does it resemble the HSC Physics course?
I plan to be a Math major, Will these skills be useful in this course?
How difficult is this course in comparison to it's higher counterpart?

hey mate,
not sure whin 2004 they used Eugene Hecht - Physics: Calculus (space shuttle)
and last year they used Serway - Physics (end of a boat) also Giancoli - Physics (ice mountain) was used also

difficulty is essentially the same, a few years back they had 4/6 questions being common between the 2 courses, and for those 2 questions - you pretty much need a decent understanding of what was taught in lectures so answers both of the papers questions (way smaller difference in difficulty than maths 1a / higher maths 1a)

Physics 1A has almost NO resemblance to HSC Physics.
It's a whole new game.
HSC Physics is bullshit.
Physics 1A is real physics because it contains calculus.

The difficulty level is not that different for Higher Phys and normal Phys.

As to whether it would be useful in a maths major, that probably depends on what type of maths you were planning to major in. If you're going to study applied maths, I think it would be helpful. People who do physics find some of the second year maths subjects (Several Variable Calculus and DEs for instance) easier. It is also useful background knowledge for other areas of science.

You can only do three first year maths subjects anyway, so you may as well do Physics as well.

Physics will really help you improve your problem solving skills so I'd say its worth it. Its too bad they seemed to have removed electromagnetism out of the course (or so I have heard), that was pretty enjoyable - compared to waves or whatever it is now, which sounds kinda lame.

It's Mechanics, Thermal Physics and Waves.
Electromagnetism would have been nice.
