Hi,
I have heard that they are scanning answers in this year and I can not find a definitive answer on the board of studies.
This leads me to my question:

To use pencil, or not to use pencil?

Will we be marked down if we draw graphs with pen?

I'm gonna draw mine with a pencil. But I'll ask before the exam just to make sure.

I'm used to doing everything using pen, never got marked down, but i dunno now, since it wasn't scanned, so when I drew a bad graph, I would just cross it out, might look bad on presentation.

If you're worried, I guess you can draw it pencil and then write over it with pen? unless you're running low on time.

Got a similar question, do we need a protractor or compass tomorrow?

On the 2012 HSC Mathematics paper (there are 2 'sketch' questions), it says:

General Instructions
• Reading time – 5 minutes
• Working time – 3 hours
Write using black or blue pen
Black pen is preferred

• Board-approved calculators may
be used
• A table of standard integrals is
provided at the back of this paper
• In Questions 11–16, show
relevant mathematical reasoning
and/or calculations
The direction is to use black or blue pen, therefore using pencil would be contravening the instructions.

NB: there should be no difference between 'write', 'sketch', 'shade' etc.

Yeah, you do use black pen for maths.

On papers were they want you to use pencil for diagrams (SDD, Physics) it specifically says to do so.
