Well, if your in year 11 now, then you have a few options in regards to pathways:
A) Right now (if your school allows it) you may drop a preliminary course(s) that you are currently undertaking and restart it next year. This would mean however, that you would have to stay back an extra year to finish the year 12 component of that course, seeing as your pretty much "delaying" your completion of the course.
B) Next Year, you may have a year off from a particular subject(s) and take start the year 12 stage of it in term 4 of next year-similar to what I said in A), your pretty much staying back an extra year.
The other is acceleration, but seeing that your already in year 11, you wouldn't be eligible for this.
I'm doing pathways and its pretty good. The workload is easier, but it of course, challenges you mentally as you have the weight of that fact that you have to stay back another year. But you should have a strong reason as to why you would want to undertake pathways, otherwise you might face regret later on down the path (Pun not intended).
