You don't need to learn them all but the more you know, the better you look in your answers. Like saying macellum rather than market is important, same with thermopolia rather than hot food shops. Do the best you can, it will all come from reading more and answering questions. I always kept a little glossary at the back of my exercise book and built on it during the term.

Building on what clintmyster said, all you need are the essential words: (Also, note that where words end in 'ium', the plural is 'ia' and where they end in 'um', the plural is 'a')

sesterces - common unit of money used at the time
macellum - the market
pistrinium - bakery
latrine - public toilets
fullonica - laundries
thermopolium - hot food shop
atrium - the central hall with opening
compluvium - the opening in the roof of the atrium, designed to let rainwater fall in
impluvium - small shallow pool to catch the rainwater from the compluvium
duoviri quinquennales - two men who were the elected magistrates of Pompeii, responsible for the town's adminsitration
aediles - two men responsible for the administration of public buildings and events, they were elected every July who took office the following year in January.
paterfamilias - the head of the household
lares - family gods
lararium - shrine dedicated to the family gods
triclinium - dining room
cubiculum - bedrooms
culina - kitchen
basilica - a building located in the forum where business transactions and legal affairs took place and were handled
forum - the town square, it contained the temples and basilica
garum - the sauce made from rotting fish for which Pompeii was famous
