Is it possible for a teacher to prevent you from doing an HSC course?

For example, I'm doing 2u Maths at the moment, but I'm doing extremely poor and probably going to get something like 10% for my prelim exam. My teacher is the head teacher of the faculty and can he block me from doing the 2u HSC course?

Generally, no. They may stop you from doing an Extension course, though.

That being said - if you're getting 10% in Maths, it probably isn't for you. That or you should go down to General.

Um...My friend got 0 in MX1 but they didn't force him to drop the course. They only sent the letter urging him to drop the course.

They can't force you out if you're already doing the course. But a school can stop you from doing 4unit maths or english.

Actually a school can't stop you doing a course, if they offer it.

They can strongly advise you against it.

At my school, if a student really wants to do a course/level we don't think they are capable of doing we will write to the parents/guardians saying that and asking for them to acknowledge that the student is doing a course against our professional judgement. Every year we get one or two students who start Ext 2 English and Maths like that. They usually drop out after a couple of weeks realising that the course is more difficult that they thought to start with,

Really? What if the student is like a bad influence for the future class?

I have a mate who is an absolute pest. Teachers told us that he cannot be allowed if he keeps acting that way.

That's cool. I won't have to worry that much about my MX1 yearlies now.

they could always just expel the student.. though if they are just a "pest" then its probably a bit extreme to go expelling them.

The teachers can make statements like that but if the student really pushes the issue the student will win.

Poor behaviour is not a valid reason with the BOS for not allowing a student to do a course.

The school needs to deal with behaviour problems but the answer isn't to not allow a student to do a course.

There is a reason why teachers would "strongly suggest" stopping a course. Why would you continue if you're getting 0 or 10% in assessments?

They could recommend you to not do it but I dont think theyre allowed to force you to drop it. Its your choice after all.
