Hey guys,

I was thinking of introducing a new thing to this forum to help you guys out and also possibly give some of you a challenge. Basically i was thinking of posting a challenge question each week, one which will be hard, but still do-able using only what is taught in 2 unit. Users can then PM me with the answer, and possibly the first the answer correctly gets some kind of reward. Post here with what you think? Also if you do have some challenging questions that you think would be good, please PM to me.

Thanks.

yeah this would be good. But your going to have to make it accessible to a broad variety of people. I mean Slide Rule and Rench etc. will essentially get these questions right everyweek, so their input has to be restricted. Also, how can u ensure the answer is not posted on a BOS thread. There are alot of pedantics. Can there only be one winner, i.e. first in best dressed. Also, will people who get the answer right consecutive weeks be restricted from entering, or possibly allocated to a harder set of questions. I really do this this is a great idea, perhaps you could explain to me the rules as such in a pm, or on this thread.

Thanks

I won't participate on areas which are my strong point, but things like geometry, locus, et cetera, I'm quite weak at, so I'd still like to try such problems.

I agree with shaf. I would like this to be extended to the ME2 forum aswell. I have a number of interesting problems for that forum.

Well i havent really thought of any rules and stuff as of yet, its just an idea that just popped into my head while learning about matrices today in Maths for some reason. Give me a few days to get some questions and think of the best way to do it, if you do have some nice questions please PM me.

Edit: for MX2 you'd have to ask the respective mods since im not mod of that.

I'd be glad to do anything on probability or P&C - that's ultimately my very weakest topic of everything whether it's 2/3/4u + circle geometry - uugghh!

Good idea ac :)

good idea Ac. Final fantasy i dont think its a matter of who gets it first. Its the techniques that you you use to solve it and the skills that you put into place that are probably the goals.

Yes. I would think it important that the contest differentiates between speed/reaction time/luck, and actual skill and effort.

Great idea. If you could, hit us up with some harder 3U style questions in the MX2 forum. This would be a great way to practise that kind of extended thinking.

Although I don't think we should take questions from well known textbooks...it's most likely that some people would have figured those out already. Sources like Cambridge, Fitzpatrick, Patel, Lee etc. as well as trial and HSC papers should be excluded...

Yes, I agree ~ ReNcH ~, which is why ill need some time to get a few questions. I think ive got a nice question in mind involving geometric progression, we'll start this on monday so i have some time to get a few more questions going.

Yep its a great idea..and as Rench said its better that the questions are completely unknown to us and not from one of the commonly available text books.

This is a great idea! Could you also do something like this in the 3unit forum as well? Rep points sound like a pretty good reward to me!

You dont know how to do GP and youre in 4 unit!? Well there would obviously be series questions, as thats where the nice questions usually pop up, but no, there are also some other algebra and geometric questions ive got so far. Also remember that these questions will be probably aimed at 2/3 unit students.
