Hey guys,

Can you help me out with this question.

A person was sitting in a car that accelerated at 5m/s/s. This is a high acceleration for a car.
a) Describe what the person would physically feel as a result of this acceleration. 1M
b) Account for this feeling in terms of Newtons First and Second Laws. 2M

I understand that its inertia and the person feels as if they were pushed back against the seat, but I cant write a good response for (b).

a. The person will feel a force enacted upon him/her as according to F=ma. Hence, F=5m

b. Newton's First Law: An object will continue in its uniform state of motion or state of rest unless an external net force enacts upon it.
In this case, as the car accelerates, it causes a disturbance in the uniform state of motion of the person as a force is enacted upon him/her. The car in increasing in velocity but the person's mass wishes to stay stationary and so it creates a force between them.

Newton's Second Law: Refers to F=ma --> acceleration is proportional to the force enacted upon a body and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
According to F=ma, Force=Mass x Acceleration --> Force = Mass x 5ms^-2

.`. Force experienced by the person=5 x Mass of the person

That is the type of response I would go for and I hope this helps!
