Hi guys how do you do this question

A compound with an empirical formula of C2OH4 and a molar mass of 88 grams per mole

I'm pretty sure you go like
C2OH4 empirical mass = 44 (12+12+16+1+1+1+1)
88/44 = 2
.: the empirical formula is C4O2H8

I wouldn't worry about empirical formulas, it's not in the HSC syllabus, nor it would be of use in the HSC.

but it's in prelim, meaning that there's a possibility that it would be in her prelim exam
