Ok. So i have windows installed on c: (20gig) and i have a mainly storage drive d: (60 gig) on a separate partition of my 80 gig HD. How can i format or reinstall windows on my c: partition, (which is causing me trouble) without wiping out my d: partition.

If you are using WinXP, and you have the original WinXP bootable CD, when you reinstall Windows you'll be given the choice of which partition to install to. Your D: will be left untouched.

i thought that's what you wanted to do?
format your drive to re-install windows?

What Sunny said was exactly the answer to your original post.

Was this CD given to you when you bought your computer? Is it an original Microsoft Windows CD or a recovery disc from the computer manufacturer?

There should be an option (when installing Windows XP through boot) to Erase the partition before Installing Windows XP onto it. make sure you don't select "repair"- you want to do a clean install.
