Hey guys,

im just seeing if anyother class of 2005 students are around here, if so answer me these questions 3....

1)What instrument(s) do u play?
2)What Course do u do?
3)What elective are u gonna do?

just curious as to what the rest of the state is doing.....

1) Clarinet and Saxophone
2) Music 2 and Extension
3) Performance for music 2 and Composition for extension

also, if any 2003/4 students are hanging around and dont have anything better to do, i'd like to know what u did and how u felt about what u did, etc bla bal bla...
:)

I play Oboe and to my knowledge, I was the only oboist in the state, but I'm sure there were more out there that I just didn't know of.

I did Extension and Majored in Musicology. For 2U i did Performance Elective and almost died when i had tonsillitis 4 weeks before my HSC Prac but I survived.

I enjoyed the Performance aspect and Extension Musicology immensely but I wasn't so fond of the Aural Skills if truth be told. I used to detest composition but really really liked it in the end and ended up with full marks so I suppose it could have been worse. :)

Oh and its not that I don't have better things to do, but I'm the new mod, so I feel compelled (quite rightly) to begin living here.

Hey, Im Class of 05 as well

This is wat im doing:
1. I play Bass
2. Music 1... WOOO go music 1, i hope there are others on this forum otherwise im gunna feel like an idiot
3. For my electives im probably doin 2 performances and 1 composition, becoz there is no decent australian stuff for bass.

I saw encore this year bloody awesome it was, the guy that did the taikoz drumming stuff is the jazz band conducter at our skools dad, and he is also an awesome drummer!

it depends. if you struggle with writing essays and hate research, then don't do musicology. but if you like it, by all means, go for it!! :)

the reason why i chose musicology is because i already have the scores, recordings and notes for pieces that i could choose to write my essay on...

i studied a number of pieces few years ago when i was studying overseas, and also coz i did music theory up to grade 8...

so i thought it might be the easiest option for me.

1) Piano
2) Music 2 and Extension
3) Music 2 = Composition, Music Extension = Composition.

FOUR COMPOSITIONS.

2004: Well these comps are like my children. The youngest one (my elective) is a little shit. The bastard child that didn't want to figure out what it wanted to do until two days before the due date.

MY ADVICE: If you are doing 3-4 compositions, here is my advice. You should start concieving these early, especially having your core performance due at the same time as your comps. Visualise writing it out/printing these out. Always talk to your music teacher, have a good relationship here. Have second opinion.

If you are going to undertake music tertiary courses, then you should make all your pieces as contrasting as possible. Trust me, after doing these comps, interviewing is easy.

the mandatory topic doesnt have to be australian - they want to have an australian focus, but as long as the music is from the last 25 years ago it should be ok.
