Increase in Parking Fees

This message was sent and authorised by Paul Bowler, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Chief Operating Officer.

In 2008 our parking fees were increased by $30 to $160. Our parking costs however remain extremely low relative to commercial rates, at 25% of commercial parking fees in the area. Importantly, we are applying a substantial portion of the increase to funding our new sustainability officer.

Change in Parking Conditions on Campus

This message was sent by Robert Kelly, Director (Office of Facilities Management) and approved by Paul Bowler, Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Chief Operating Officer.

In order to maximise the parking availability to University parking permit holders, casual parking areas on campus are to be altered. From 25 February 2008 casual parking will only be available in car parks W4, X3, X4, N1 and N3. These car parks are being provided with updated ticket machines, which will allow credit card use as well as cash. Ticket machines will be removed from all other car parks and appropriate signage put in place advising of these changes.

I assume most people take their own lunch in? As it would be pretty expensive to eat at U@MQ everyday, even with those pitty discounts?

Bottom level of the Lincoln Building... which is like... pretty much the opposite end of the big courtyard thing to the Sam building (sorry... u@mq building)... downstairs from the library. You go in there and fill out one of the forms sitting on a desk then you just pay and yeah, you need your student card.

that's what i thought until i worked it out as a daily rate... say you have a four day week... with 26 weeks of classes a year... plus say that you have to come in say... a total of 15 days extra through the year to submit assignments and for exams and to use the library... that makes it less than $1.50 a day. A bit more if you have a 3 day week or anything like that obviously... but still ALOT cheaper than any other carpark.

That's true, it is cheaper than ALL commercial parking spaces anywhere. However, what I will be struggling with is the $160 upfront cost, the fact that is upfront throws my budget out of whack for that fortnight.

Macquarie Centre is another 'únauthorised' alternative.

I dont think MQ Uni and Mac Centre like it though.

MQ Centre have started putting up "3 hour only signs" or "Customer only" parking.

Are there actually parking inspectors there?

Never seen any.
