Okok so my school has made me do SOR II but to put it bluntly I hate the subject, which is pretty clearly seen in my grades. Multiple people (including teachers) have told me my marks are confusing since I have the ‘ability’ to do well, I just can’t bring myself to study properly. Unsurprisingly, I’m pretty behind now and it’s stressing me out because I don’t want it to hurt my ATAR. Does anyone have any advice on how to pay more attention, actively study, and prioritise the subject to get my grades up? I find it really hard to pay attention in class (even when I try) and will automatically study for all other subjects before focusing on SOR.

this advice may or may not apply to you or work for you, but just putting it out there.

ive felt this way a lot of times abt a variety of subjects and my advice for not being able to pay attention or say on task in class is to not fight it. by that i mean i would sit through lessons that i couldnt focus in and just grind out all of the other pieces of hw i had for the day during that period.

when you get back home i would:
  • set a specific time blocks throughout the week (prob cant do it every day if you hate the subject and dont ahve motivation) but try to dedicate specific times of day in the week to that subject and literally nothing else
  • set a goal for a specific mark or grade or rank
  • promise yourself to study x amount of hours per week
  • write down all the things that you can do to study for this subject (ask friends/teacher for advice).
  • if youre sitting there procrastinating while the timer is running, make it so that you can't leave your desk to take a break until you finish a specific amount of work within the time limit (not as toxic as it sounds if you break tasks up into achievable sections). i would lock myself in my room for this one subejct i really hated lmaoao.

think about how if you tank SOR it'll drag down ur atar and you might have to go to tafe to get into uni and cost you thousands of dollars extra than if you actually put in some elbow grease and got a high enough atar to get in in the first place

...so, by studying, you are saving yourself thousands of dollars.

its also free marks lol SOR is easy.

so applying that to above logic, by not studying SOR you are basically saying no to someone saying 'pass me the salt for 10 thousands dollars' because SOR is easy but you are wasting the easiness anyway

Are you in year 11? if not just drop to the 1 unit non-atar religion. For the whole time I did sorII in year 11 i did not listen to a single thing and crammed the night before and got a 75% for the prelim. Not my brightest moment but it goes to show that sorII is just a bunch of route learning. Youll be right.

Unfortunately year 12 🥀 1 unit non-atar religion is my dream but my school doesn’t offer non-atar religion and they wouldn’t let me do 1 unit bc it didn’t align with their schedule 😭😭😭 Thank u anyway : )
