Missing out on a bit of uni. How much will it affect me? (1 Viewer)

To all the guys/gurls went to UTS particularly or just any other uni, will i be missing out on a lot of crucial information if i dont go to the two weeks of orientation + first 2 formal classes due going overseas attending personal matters? I'm someone considering joining clubs, societies and would obviously like to do well at uni but will neglecting orientation and 2 classes put me at some disadvantage, if so how much? I feel like i'm gonna have trouble getting to know the rooms, environment and all (no i didnt go open day but should've).

Do the tutorials/lectures have compulsory attendance?
If not it will impact you slightly.
