I know the maximum units commerce students are allowed to take is 24uoc, and we can get permission to do 30uoc....But has anyone ever been allowed to do more, ie 33uoc (4 normal subjects + 3 Geneds)??

I take that your doing commerce. The Commerce faculty are stingy, so the most they'll let you have is 30uoc only during your final year. 33uoc is out.

If however you belong to the lovely Engineering faculty and have done 30uoc before you can request to do more, e.g. 36uoc.

Don't do more than 30uoc.

30uoc itself is very demanding. Need more than 24/7 a week

someone told me first years cant take more than 24..per semester.. is that true?

unless your work ethic is really good (aka studying regularly and arent lagging behind in terms of homework, required readings and general understanding of all the material), most 1st years will find 24uocs is pretty much the most they can handle.
