Maths and Medical Science (1 Viewer)

hi everyone. I intend to study medical science but i have only studied general maths. All unis have an assumed knowlegde of at least 2-unit mathematics and some even prefer 3-unit.

I am really worried about the difficulty of maths involved with medical science. I am planning on taking a bridging course, but is there a lot of maths related content and will taking a 2-unit maths bridging course be enough to cover for the course?

please let me know the amount of maths that is involved with the course.

Meh, I only did general maths in year 12.

There are definitely some subjects that require a little bit of maths knowledge, but seriously, if you did alright in general maths i think youll be fine with MedSc.

there is a statistics subject that i think most of the unis run with MedSc which is a bit difficult if you dont have a solid maths background, and the maths involved with some of the chemistry; but if you've done some chem before tht shouldnt be an issue either

usually doing med sci could lead to you doing a medicine degree, but if you are just doing a straight med sci degree, then you could work in a lab doing some research.

Yeah. I'm doing a pathology specialisation so I'm hoping to get into pathology labs if I don't make it into Post Grad Med.

post graduate medicine, it's a medicine degree that is only offered if you have done previous undergraduate studies.

Actually thats called "Graduate" Medicine. Its incorrect to call it "Postgraduate" (for some reason which I have forgotten lol)

i never did phys orchem in high school
do you think that id be able to cope through the years without having done the bridging courses, is it recommended that i do them? are phys and chem strongly emphasised in teh course?
i asked a few and most saaid dontwaste your time on doing the bridging courses...so yeah

If you work hard in chem and physics, you should be fine even without doing a bridging course. Just be consistent though because they teach quite fast at uni. And enrol in the normal version but the advanced one.

I just finished chem and physics. I did chem 1 and chem 2 over 2 semesters (worth 6cp each) and physics was 1 semester (also worth 6cp) so I would say yes they do emphasise it in year one. However having said that I didn't do chem or physics in hsc and it was alright.

As far as physics is concerned, how well you do is much more corrolated with how well you did in math in high school as most lecturers will tell you high school physics in NSW is BS:rofl:.
