ok, so...

my class had a MAJOR discussion on this, an i know most of the guys in my class r just being stubborn...BUT

what is the main difference between
- manipulating the truth; and
- distorting the truth

I believe that to manipulate the truth you actually have to change the facts to suit your perception.

Whereas a distortion of the truth is to change other people's perception of the truth to sort your view, in light of the facts.

i think manipulating has more to do with persuading to your view
whereas people can distort the truth for no reason

"Manipulating the truth" is the umbrella term - you are essentially controlling how much or how little truth is recieved. Distortion is a technique applied in this kind of manipulation and involves muddling people's perception of facts.

Manipulating the truth is taking the actual story and changing it to make a different "truth." Whereas, distorting the truth involves taking a "truth" and putting a particualr slant on it or portraying it from a particular perspective.
