This message sent by Adrian Briggs and approved by Mr Paul Bowler, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer.

From Monday 3 December, parking inspectors from the City of Ryde have commenced enforcing the 1 hour and 3 hour parking time limits of Macquarie Centre car parks. This program was implemented to ensure that their car parks are free from all day parkers. Parking remains free for customers.

An Infringement Notice will be issued to cars that exceed the designated time limits within the car park, although the program will not target customers. Should a genuine shopper receive an Infringement Notice they must contact centre management within 1 working day and so that they can address the issue immediately with City of Ryde. Proof of shopping in the centre is a requirement (shopping dockets, receipts etc).

For further information contact Wayne Wright, Centre Management, Macquarie Shopping Centre, phone 9887 0832.

I have noticed the signs on the bottom car park floors about the 3 hour limit but i heard that it would coming into effect when the train station is finished.....

Anyway, its really a shame, i always park there and its going to be abit tough for those who crammed everything into 2 days and not having to buy a permit...

ouch

there goes the "If you can't find parking, don't worry! You can always park at Macquarie Centre!" line.

Here's to hoping that cityrail MIGHT, just MIGHT make it's deadline. Parking will be easier at uni once we have a decent train line running.

When is the train station supposed to be finished?

I don't understand the e-mail though - are they saying that all of their parking areas now have a 3 hour limit, however if you're a shopper and can show proof of purchasing something, the limit doesn't apply?

But it says this:
An Infringement Notice will be issued to cars that exceed the designated time limits within the car park,
so I assume you get a notice if you're there for more than 1 or 3 hours
although the program will not target customers. Should a genuine shopper receive an Infringement Notice they must contact centre management within 1 working day and so that they can address the issue immediately with City of Ryde. Proof of shopping in the centre is a requirement (shopping dockets, receipts etc).
yet it won't target customers and they need to show proof of purchase...
This is stupid in so many ways. If you get an infringement notice, go and buy something to show that you were 'shopping.' It will be more work for Mac Centre to cancel notices for genuine shoppers. Also what does it mean if you are a genuine customer and didn't buy anything? Staff? I can't think of a better solution though.

i work at Mac Centre

Staff Parking - Staff have been given little card things which we put on our dashboard in the staff area

and re the 3 hour limit (except when youre shopping) if you are booked at say 2 pm and your receipt is for 4pm or something they wont accept it - from memory they said youll need 2 have more than one receipt over a period of time to be able to prove you actually were shopping there........

and yes they do fine people now...started last monday and coming out of work i saw about 30 cars that had been fined....

Not like I park at MQ anyways..

But what if you were "shopping" there.. as in, you were walking around.. just that you didnt find anythihng to buy, or nothing was to your fancy.. but you were genuinely in MQ centre and walking around.. how does that work?

Or you bought something at 3pm, then walked for another 2hrs without buying anything...

Also.. I've seen that some cars who park a long time or in the wrong places get some orange sticker.. I think I've read those stickers and never seen a monetary fine involved..

Plus I used to be a staff at MQ centre and I never got a little card to stick on my dash =S

theyve only just brought in the whole fine thing....i think theyve stopped the whole orange stickers now

and lots of people are complaining about it.....i think they should just introduce one of those ticket things they use at westfield where there is 3 hours free then pay after that....would make life alot easier for everyone!

What happens if you are in the movies for 3 hours, then come out and get food, then as Ciel said, walk around for a while, but dont actually buy anything. The number of times I have gone to all games/cd/book stores and not bought anything is too many to count. The system is fucked. I would be willing to bet they crumble under complaints from genuine customers and change the system.

Anyone know how much a fine is?

as i said....their best bet would be introduce a paid parking system rather than a free one.....stops the all day parkers and makes sure genuine shoppers are fine....and introduce an american style 'validation' system where when a purchase is made you get like an extra hour free or something.....

and the fine is the same as a normal parking fine (around the 80ish dollar mark i think) and its being monitered by City of Ryde parking inspectors AND Mac Centre security people.....

or we could just pay and get the uni sticker :p
qft! but yeah it sounds lame, a westfield style one would work better especially for window-shoppers

buy a sticker, say you lost it and then get a replacement. Share the cost of the "2" stickers between 2 people = win.

When you go to Macquarie Centre for lunch, keep the receipt.

You are a genuine customer.
