The following question are from Maths In Focus 2 Unit Book. I struggle to find the equation of the Tangent/Normal as they do not provide a Y value.
Exercise 5.7
Q5. Find the equation of the tangent to the curve y=log(x-1) at the point where x=2.
Q7. Find the exact equation of the normal to the curve y=logx at the point where x=5.
Q9. Find the point of inflection on the curve y=xlogx - X^2.

If they do not provide a y value, sub the x value in to the equation of the curve to get it.

E.g. y = log(x - 1)

At x = 2, y = log(2 - 1) = log(1) = 0

Therefore the point is (2, 0)

Then you find the gradient of the tangent/normal, and use that point to determine the equation of the tangent/normal.
