I was wondering whether people actually make up their own case studies in their responses, do you think i should do this so i don't waste time

you should research some of them. Although i've made up names when i've forgotten them..

Yeah I agree. If you're aiming for a great mark I wouldn't be making up case studies. It's not that difficult to remember a few case studies and some evidence. Some case studies are actually really interesting, and therefore easy to remember. But if you really want to risk it, go right ahead.

Lol, yes some people do and i think the marker wouldnt always bother checking it up... althought its good to know some famous case studies that have happened in Australia to assure the marker the rest isn't made up. For example for Human Rights a classic would be R-V-WEI TANG the markers should all be familiar with that.
