Latin Resources (2 Viewers)

Ok so now I intend to take Latin as part of my degree... it'll probably be useful for Sciences. Anyway, the handbooks recommend I buy a Latin dictionary. Later on, there will be "close study of Latin texts, to develop reading and comprehension skills."

Are Latin resources freely available around Sydney, or would I have to go look at some specialist bookstores (besides the Uni bookstores)...?

Well, you'll find that some stores will have *some* Latin resources. Dictionaries won't be hard to find... As for textbooks, they might be harder... so much so, you might have to order them. Of course, Uni libraries (and even State libraries) should have a tonne of resources.

the fisher library at usyd is fantastic for latin resources. i've spent so many afternoons there.

abbey's bookshop in york st has heaps of books you can buy, though they don't always come cheap.

Strangely, if you look at the "Japanese resources" sticky in my forum you'll find the two best places for Language books: Abbeys and Kinokuniya. You'll find directions there, or I can take you myself.

Borders Skygarden is also pretty big, but I think their language section may not be quite as good as Dymocks City Store. Still, the Language Bookstore (2nd floor Abbeys) is the best in Sydney for language education resources.

yeah, abbeys is really good, and fischer is fantastic, though all their latin resources seem really really old, but anyways, i dun think u'd find them anywhere else. major bookstores should stock dicionaries

as in coop bookshops? they usually give discounts to uni students, so have a look and compare prices, but they'd prbly have a more relevant range of textbooks

Yeah, get co-op membership. And Kinokuniya membership. And Abbeys, at that. They give student discounts (not Kino).

Scout for prices between the above including relevant discounts, I can help with this as I am the discount queen.

Co-op membership is available at any branch. You rock up, give them your 20 odd bucks (it's around that) and get life membership yay.

On a related note, I actually went looking in Kinokuniya for some Latin stuff the other day. They've got a few textbooks, decent range for a section outside the store's specialty. However, there were very few dictionaries, and none in the "tome" size. Abbeys is anyone's best bet.
