I ran the crucial RAM scan at this website http://www.crucial.com/ and it told me:

Maximum Memory Capacity: 512 MB
Currently Installed Memory: 512 MB
Available Memory Slots: 1
Number of Banks: 2
Dual Channel Support: N.A.
CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.70GHz Model 13, Stepping 6
CPU Speed: 1694 MHz

(A screenshot is attached).

So, there is an exmpty slot, but the 'current' and 'max' memory equal one another... does this mean I can or cannot get an upgrade for my lappy?

Thanks for any help,
Ac

What chipset do you have? Are you running an ultra-portable? Although most mobos which take PMs should support upto 1-2GB.

IM running a HP Compaq Presario B3820AP Notebook Computer with the following specs.:

Processor - Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735 (#) supports Enhanced Intel® SpeedStep Technology (1.7GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 400MHz FSB)
Operating system - Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
Standard memory - 512MB (1 x 512MB) DDR SDRAM (333MHz)
Maximum memory - Upgradeable to 2GB max (with discard)
System memory - 512MB (1 x 512MB) DDR SDRAM (333MHz), upgradeable to 2GB
Cache - 2MB Level-2 Cache
Hard drive - 60GB (5400 rpm)
Optical drive -DVD±RW/±R
Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (128MB DDR SDRAM)

It says there that it is upgradable as well... Whats the difference between 'standard' and 'system' memory?

Cheers,
Ac

i guess standard means what the system is normally shipped with and maximum is the maximum amount...

i'd ignore the webscanner results you got and trust the specs you found.
