Hey, how many languages can you study at uni?
I mean, if I was to study French, could I also do Italian or something else?
Is there a limit? - I don't know much about all the units; it hasn't really been explained yet.

Also, does ANU have an early entry program?

Thanks

You could study as many as you wanted to depending on what degree you were taking. For example, if you did science you'd be limited to one language (i.e. I THINK that they are given one arts elective, but you're better off checking the under-graduate handbook at www.anu.edu.au for specific info relating to certain degrees).

I know in Asian studies, IF YOU ARE DOING STRAIGHT ASIAN STUDIES you can take up more than one language (However if you are combining you have to do a language, and a non-language course unless you're doing a double weighted language). Arts as a degree isnt focussed on languages, so I assume that you can take up more than one even if you are combining it, though I'm not sure.

You get 24 credit points a semester to play with, and on average most subjects are 6 credit points (though Chinese is 12, and Japanese is divided into written and spoken which are both 6 each).

Though, to be honest you are really making it hard on yourself if you do more than one language (especially if you are thinking of combining an arts degree with say, law.)

I'm not sure about early entry, check the undergraduate handbook.

*e-hug

since I have nothing better to do at 2:30 in the morning...

Edit : You may need to call them http://www.anu.edu.au/psi/admissions/index.html. Why do you want early entry anyway?

I'm probably not the best call for Asian Studies, since I do half the subjects others do (since Chinese is double weighted). In regards to my trip - I'll (hopefully) be going to Peking University :)

doesn't matter - do it if you have time....did you get the email?
peking uni? lemme go with you ! Tsing Hua or Qing hua is also good...for science especially. but I don't think ANU has an exchange with Peking Uni, only with Renmin Uni which is alright for literature and history and that, but crap for the others. can you confirm?

I don't know, and I don't care. :p

I'm not looking for work in China *yet* so I don't care what university I go to, it's just to improve my language. ATM I haven't considered the trip too much (since I'm not sure whether I want to do it yet) so I haven't really looked into it, I just hoped for Peking.

Yeah I got your email, I'll get in touch with Charles, though you really should have emailed him yourself. ;)

nah I think it's only renmin....
I would so jump at peking uni. er don't you have to do a trip overseas for the specialist course? actually the facilities etc vary a lot at the unis so I'd advise you against going to the crappy ones...Shanghai uni, or Zhong san uni in Guangzhou is alright, and you get to learn canto as well.

he sounded like he thought I was a terrorist or something, not to be trusted with his email, so probably wiser to just do as he said. sorry + thank you :(
