Labor MPs plotting to dump Premier Nathan Rees

A GROUP of senior NSW Labor MPs, including members of Premier Nathan Rees' own Cabinet, are quietly plotting to topple him after just 132 days in the job - and replace him with Frank Sartor.

The Daily Telegraph has learned that a secret agreement was reached over Christmas between a group of MPs, including three ministers, that he be given until as early as March to turn around the Government's flagging fortunes before plans would be drawn up to replace him.

Citing anger over abysmal polls, a disastrous mini-Budget and the poor handling of the Tony Stewart scandal, one of the MPs declared: "The experiment had failed".

[...]

Despite this, several MPs confirmed there was growing support to back Mr Sartor - and not former union boss John Robertson - should Mr Rees not be able to turn around the polls.

Mr Sartor's supporters claim they have at least 20 of the 48 MPs from the dominant right wing faction willing to back him.

More significantly, at least three MPs aligned to the John Robertson camp, headed by Mr Tripodi and Mr Obeid, would consider defecting to Mr Sartor.

In further troubling signs for Mr Rees' survival, several of his left-wing faction colleagues have deserted him and are planning to support Deputy Premier Carmel Tebbutt as a possible replacement. [...]
So the number counting and destabilisation of the leader has begun. But Frank Sartor? Are they trying to test how low the polls can go?

Possible replacements mentioned now:
- John Robertson
- Carmel Tebbutt
- Frank Sartor
- Kristina Keneally

They used up their get out of jail with the innocent you-wouldnt-beat-a-puppy-Iemma last time. Now id say Carmel Tebbutt is probably their best bet for damage control

I've been sort of hoping that the Libs get into some trouble though, bc I want to see Pru Goward in charge( cold 'n powerful milfs are my weakness)

AAaarrgh i like my politics because they're good for a laugh but i actually have to vote at the next state election....

Labour is horrible because i hate the trains (especially at peak hour) + Rees is shoddy but the Liberals don't seem to be doing anything at all ><"

Iemma = Fail
Rees = More Fail
Sartor = Epic Fail

My conclusion: Vote Liberal for State Government :)

Give Tebbutt a chance. If she fails, give it to Sartor. If both of them are failures, voluntarily give the position to the Liberals :headbang:

There's been talk for the last few months of Joe Hockey moving to State politics....not from the horses mouth, mind.

But imagine that- we could actually have a working opposition/attrative alternative government, as opposed to the current lesser of two evils.

From Hockey's perspective though, I doubt it would be worth moving from Federal politics, he's still got a long way to go there IMO

LOL as if that greasy, corrupt prick sartor is going to be any better. I think if you did a close investigation of his days as planning minister many interesting things would come to light.

Could be a leak from Rees' people. It is my opinion the far right faction of the labor party(should such a thing even exist? It's like a socialist faction of the liberal party) are at this stage so incredibly unpopular and disliked that party disunity with Rees being a left wing leader would actually reflect well on him, it would imply that trogs aren't getting their way. Rees, fairly unpopular, NSW labor very unpopular, Rees needs to appear like he isn't really "one of the boys."

Lol absurd. This speculation is nothing but destabilizing and embarrassing for the entire Rees government. Loved the way his loyal colleagues rushed to his defense today in the Australian:

Mr Kelly, Police Minister, asked if he believed Mr Rees would lead Labor to the next state election, due in March 2011: "I can't see why he wouldn't."

When told his words did not sound like a ringing endorsement for Mr Rees, Mr Kelly said: "I hope that he will be (Premier). I can't see any reason why not, unless he decides it's not good for his married life or whatever."

Mr Della Bosca, the Health Minister, said the idea of a plot to dump Mr Rees was "fiction".

"I have supported Nathan Rees since Morris Iemma stepped down," he said.
