is it possible for a guy and a girl [both hetero.] who are just really close/good friends to stay that way ? or will it always escalate into something bigger?

sometimes i would say that a friendship between a guy and a girl either breaks down or becomes something more. i would imagine as time goes on and u make new firends that rarely would a friendship last.
but at the same time there is nothing against saying otherwise

Yes it is. Although there can be confusion from observing parties.

Yes esp. when her BF thinks that you and her are more than just Close freinds...
My best freind is female(male myself) and that caused all sorts of problems for us.. because her bf used to be my best freind.. until she came between us(..actually thats a good thing... real faggot he was.. basically she and him were together.. then she dumped him for me.. i didn't know anything of that tho.. then she ended up dumping me for him again, and me and her are extremely close..) so close that many are suspicious of exactly how close..

I've now moved to a different school and we're just as close, but we're not around eachtoher as much.. which has helpedher extremely in teh fact she dones't have a probem of the jealous bf anymore! -- yes she did tell him to fuck himself or get over it..

i myself would like to answer your question. and i like so many, want to know the answer as well. it is a big question, whether your thinking about the thing i think your thinking, it is big.

like someone had said before, friendships last, whilst relationships can deterioate. the answer to this question can only be answered by you alone.

there is no use of us telling you our experiences with this particular situation. there is not enough detail to determine anything.

we can tell you our experiences, but then again, you may derive our meaning in a different way to what we expected.

I would usually say yes there is... but...

One of my best guy friends made such a pact to me --- that he couldn't ever just "fade out" and "forget about me" over some girl. Lies. ALL LIES!!!

ME: Hey you're girlfriend hasn't been faithful (I said it nicer than that)

HIM: I'm stupid and retarded and even though you have shown me evidence, and demonstrated such loyalty to me because every single one of my mates know and you're the only one with enough respect for me, I don't care WHAT you say, and to make sure I don't ever come to terms with the truth... *fades out of my life*

So yeah.

no they cant work
speaking from experience
or maybe its just me who cant work
i just got completely and utterly dissed by the guy who i have liked since year 9.. we were friends, and then together, and then friends, and then together. i think it just got to the point where he couldnt take it anymore and now its over for good.. we'll go off to different unis and never see each other again, coz we ended it on a bad note, which is so sad, because hes the greatest guy
so dont have a relationship with a friend. it can only end in tears

Friends come and go huni. You learn a lot more through it. I don't know about you, but I see reincarnations of long lost friends in new people I see. It's even more amazing when they think that too. Keep your chin up.

what is with pride in our world. pride is over. we don't need pride. this is what destroys relationships, friendships and other relevant ships.

why do we need to keep our chin up? keep your dignity, but we can let our pride go. this is what creates such conflicts. it begins miserably and ends worse than the original miserability.

where are ethics? has it gone already. we should be keeping to our principles, this is what guides us. knowing what is right and wrong in our own mind. pride is like a giveaway, it is only a notion now. it is an insignificant feeling.

friendships are strong. these can sometimes go the whole way. there might not be any other friend just like the one you are willing to lose.

i think she meant 'keep your chin up' as 'stay positive' :uhhuh:
but what your saying is also true.. pride can lead to arrogance in a relationship and ruin it eventually \=

I am JUST giving her some HOPE don't EVER quote me AGAIN if you're going to pretend to DECONSTRUCT my answer. There are plenty of friends that have the potential to last, I never denied it. I also never denied the beauty and sadness of never finding the same kind of friend. YOU NICELY WORDED IT ALL... BUT don't EVER QUOTE ME if you're going to put me into a context of some bad advice. Where's the ethics my ass.

hey chill out. you just gave me the wrong impression!!! talking about some bitchiness/ misunderstnading... keeping your chin up to me, implied arrogance. therefore the implication about the pride factor. its all good! i'm all good with the positiveness.

and if your going to be the former of the brackets, please don't quote me again, since i was replying to then assumed bad advice.
