i think you have to host one exchange student in return .i know there's alot of paper work to do, but they organise your profile and present them to potential host families & if they like you they will host, with food , accomadation. I thinks its a great experience of a lifetime, i mean you get to experience the whole culture of a country, daily family life etc.....

which organisation Jenny are you doing it through? goodluck

the japanese class at my school hosted japanese students last year in july, for 2 weeks. they themselves went to japan in september i think. they told me the japanese students took them out everyday after school and got home at like 8 or something. attending class in a japanese high school was boring (because they couldn't understand much japanese), but other than that they had heaps of fun. when the japanese students came here it was so much fun too, we took them to places and made really good friends.

I went as exchange last year with our sister school in Japan. It's not necessary to previously host a student before or anything, at least for my school anyway.

Exchange was one of the best experience I've ever had. To be living with a Japanese family for two weeks, leading their way of life (and the best bit is having a hot both to sink into everyday) and seeing everything was just amazing. If you have a chance to go on it, you DEFINITELY must. It's an experience you'll never get again once you leave school. You can probably go for uni or something like that, but I still don't think it's the same.

Yes, its quite true.. I've never gone to japan as an exchange but rather in meeting my dad's parents and stuff.

Its truly quite different to living in Australia, I'd advise you to try going to japan on the exchange. The schools hahaha well it really depends on which school you go to, not all schools make you wash and clean XP

lols, gomenasai.. for I didnt do japanese..so not too sure..

Anyhow, yes you are allowed to go out in the weekends, but u'll probably need your host family to help you ^^

Also, you can apply through your school''s main office, i'm sure if u ask them, they will be able to provide u with pamplets for the exchange

If they offered to host you, then obviously they'll be pretty nice to you so I don't think that case will ever arise. Don't worry. My host mum treated me like one of her own from day one, worrying about everything, even doing my laundry O_O

I think i talked abt this in another thread but neway...i went to Japan back in yr10 w/ my Jap class. Technically it wasnt an exchange cos our skool didnt receive ne jap students. We lived w/ host families for 2wks in Kure (near Hiroshima). Basically we'd go to diff skools most days & do various 'intercultural' activities, etc. twas gr8 fun :D

Ur doin ur xchange thru OHS yeh? I'm not sure how they do it, but our trip was organised by some Jap travel company who specialises in this sorta thing. Will u b goin by ur self or w/ othr OHS ppls?

All in all, goin on exchange is probly one of the best things u'll evr do...so dive at it!
