I had three actual teachers and loads of student teachers. The three teachers were all "white" (well one was a Belgian-born Russian living on the North Shore) but they each lived in Japan between one and ten years, taking Japanese wives. Many of the student teachers were Japanese who had come to Australia with hopes for career change and became Japanese teachers. They were funky, and said some hilarious things - one would squeal "shizuka niiii!"

yeah... my teacher was japanese. She was really nice cuz she gave us food after we got our exams back each time

my school japanese teacher was australian and she was an exchange student in japan for a year when she was younger... she's got a pretty good japanese accent too.. which is good.. and my TAFE japanese teacher was also Australian but the 2nd one was Japanese..
