Is there still a chance i can get 80? (2 Viewers)

Hey i know i left one a few months ago, but my ranks have changed and i was wondering if theres still a chance i can get a UAI of 80?

English Standard: 1/30
Pdhpe 1/26
Maths General 6/27
IPT 4/17
Business 4/ 15

My school is ranked around the 250 mark

I would assume that u can get an 80, BUT i see that ur subjects arent that high scaling, BUT if u do keep those ranks such as 1st, then u are bound to get at least an 80.
BUT, beware, that standard english scales really badly, even ESL english scales better.

Yeah, many people don't understand that fact.

I was busy talking to people at my school who wasn't aware of that fact and acted as if they knew everything about scaling.

loll, even i don't know what i said. But i'll try to summarise what i said anyways.

Since Std and Adv both do the same paper for AOS, they both get the same scaling for that paper - which is scaled to Std level, whilst the other paper, the modules, is changed to their respective scaling.

eg.
Area of Study Paper
John (Adv): 80
James (Std): 80
Both John and James are scaled the same

Modules
John (Adv): 80
James (Std): 80
John is scaled to say 99, while James is scaled down to 2

In short, that's basically it.

haha im only joking with that, what im saying is that John(Adv) will get scaled on EngAdv scaling, while James will get scaled on EngStd scaling - BUT only for the modules

They both get scaled the same in the AoS paper

so can anybody tell me why so many more advanced students get a band 6 than standard? is it just because the standard course doesn't prepare them as well? or because they believe their course is breezy? or just because people worse at english study it?

some ppl DO get band6 in std...but case is very rare as teachers and the board has the perception of.....

if u are good enough to get band 6 in std....
u might as well jst do adv. and since u dun do adv.
we'll scale u down for yer laziness?????

Highest UAI received by a person doing StdEng: 99.85


Based on 2007 HSC*

Standard and Advanced English scale very very similarly (but not exactely the same).

Eg. For 2007:

Std: 70 --> Scales to 41.0
Adv: 70 --> Scales to 42.8
----

Std: 80 --> Scales to 65.5
Adv: 80 --> Scales to 64.9
----

Std: 90 --> Scales to 86.6
Adv: 90 --> Scales to 86.7

That shows how close it was for last years results...

The only real advantage in doing advanced over standard is that advanced generally attracts more hard working students.

Also, when you get into the 90's Adv. has advantages. Eg. 100 for Adv scales to 100. 100 in Std scales to 94.4

*When I say scales, it should actually be 'scaled' (last years results).
