Is a minor enough to learn a language? (1 Viewer)

Ok you could do a minor but you need to teach yourself more then, you must keep learning, reviewing and updating your broad language though what you have already learnt and continue using this language so you can become fluent and approachable for questions in such times.

umm sorry i dont know how unis work and how many hours are spent in a 'minor' and how much work you have to do, but i do have experience in learning languages!
basically ive been learning german for 3 years already, with about 100 hours of lessons per year, and some amount of study at home. It did progress quite slowly (not as fast as in uni i presume), however. I went on an exhange trip last december, where i found that with my german language skills, i could talk with my friends (fellow teens like me) quite well, but learning at school was quite difficult - especially humanities and specialist jargon-filled subjects such as biology. No way would i be able to work for an NGO or anything with that level of german....but i dont know about your capabilities, motivation and quality of arabic teaching etc etc
if you do want to work intergovernmental organisations you will have to learn lots of extra specialist words involved in your field of work, which you probably would not learn in uni. it also helps to have friends/contacts with people who speak the language so you can talk or text them and practise your speaking fluency.
