International Studies vs. Global Studies...wtf?? (1 Viewer)

So I'm flicking through my groovy little UAC08 booklet searching for my preffered course (Int Stud/Law at USYD) and I notice that there's a degree called Global Studies which seems to be quite similar to Int Studies, except with a significantly lower UAI (85 i think it was). Anyone do this course or know what the differences are between it and International Studies??

This would probably be better housed in the Usyd forum rather than the General forum, but to answer your question: Global Studies is run by the Arts Faculty and International Studies is run by the Economics and Business Faculty (although I think IntSt is moving to Arts from next year so we might see the two degrees consolidated somewhere down the track). Hence they're entirely differently structured, although they cover the same broad area.

Off the top of my head, I believe the BIntSt involves study in both Political Economy and Government and International Relations, as well as another major; BGlSt involves a Global Studies major (don't know how that differs from Government and International Relations, but it sounds like it focuses more on globalisation and geography) and a specialist Area Studies major (American, European, Asian or Arabic and Islamic Studies).
