Have any of you (past year 12s or present) had to do an assessment essay on the impact of globalisation on a country of your choice? This is my current economics assessment, and I have chosen Taiwan.

What i'm after is to have a look at anyone's past essays (doesn't matter which country) that have received close to full marks so I can have a look at how I need to set it out, etc.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

yeah everyone has to do a case study assessment....i did mine on ireland, and if you want to get full marks you will need to talk about all of the 8 points from the syllabus under the heading 'impacts of globalisation'. that should be your main structure

The first thing you must ensure is that its very current. Most of your classmates would only do events from the last year back. However, if you want to stand out, then you should events that happen even a day before the assignment was due. I did mine on Singapore, and i included in my assignment an event that happened the day before the assignment was due.

Also, having a lot of references and a good appendix is most necessary. it is after all more towards impression marking as well. Have lots of graphs, and Make sure you refer to them at least once in your essay. Always do a comparison, like say, towards the OECD average.

When also writing your essay, you should be sure to include as much economic jargon as humanly possible. That impresses the markers.

As for Taiwan itself, i can offer what little knowledge i have of it:

- Political instability with conflict with mainland China
- Slowly losing dominance as the microchip capital of Asia to China
- Technology Sector is under threat from China

Ill post more as soon i can dig out more of my articles.

The problem is, although I research it and prepare an essay on it in my own time, the essay has to be written in a timed exam, which makes it very difficult to include graphs and heavy detail, etc.

hey
i'm currently doing the same assignment, however on China. I had the same problem in terms of structure and my teacher said the best thing to do is use the syllabus. That helps later on in your exams as well as they can only test you on the syllabus. Also you should make up some drafts and hand them early, thats if your teacher allows that, so if you have any structure problems it can be fixed up.

Its interesting how your school is making you do it in exam conditions. Were simply doing it as a normal assignment, however it needs to be about 2500 words.

It's because they've had some trouble with tutors doing the work instead of students in the past, so this is the safest way.

If I post my notes for the exam up when i'm done, would any past HSC'ers possibly be able to give them the once-over to check that I haven't missed anything important?

I know, it's a long shot... but worth a try. :)

guh! we have to do an assignment 1500 words in length, AND a questionnare on the assignment to make sure it was US who did the assignment, AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT, we have to do a normal exam on the first topic. Trust me, stressful, very stressful.

Now that i've complained, I did India. :) Trust me, the problem isnt doing the assignment, the problem is the amount of information available. Most nearly everyone in my class had trouble fitting in the information in 1500 words, simply because there is TOO much information available. Heck, we had 6 sections, and i was 2200ish in the second section. lol, im around 1760ish now. hopefully teacher will accept it.

BTW, Acid, most of the ex-hsc'ers are taking time off. The forums right now are VERY slow, nearly no one posts stuff up. The guys who do respond are prolly in 04'ers. hehe, just make sure you've covered everything your teacher told you to cover, and you'll be fine.

I've got the exact same assessment [ours is just a written assessment], but i'm having trouble finding information. I was considering doing Indonesia, and our teacher suggested China since there is a lot of information available but everyone else is doing China so i kind of wanted to steer clear of it.

If anyone can suggest some good websites i'd really appreciate it - if not for indonesia for another southern economy

These are all the ones i have in my bibliography, i'm doing indonesia as well. Its heaps depressing because rather than an essay, ours is a 10 minute presentation + 2 page summary report and i just realised that rather than focus on government strategies, i just talked about the impacts of globalisation. Totally demotivated to go on, now :(

Our question is: Discuss the strategies that an economy, other than Australia, is using to promote economic growth and development in the face of the impacts of globalisation.
