I know the title sounds like I am egotistical or whatever, but I want some genuine advice on how to go about my situation. I am currently studying MX1, MX2, Physics, Chem, English ADV and I have thoughtfully realized midway through year 12 that the ATAR does not really matter.

The issue is though, while I don't want a high ATAR is, I still generally want it to be about 80 - 85. With my subjects, what route should I take to my studies to ensure that I can sustain this.

It might sound like I am not bothered at all, but I am... just not for English. What pathway can I take week by week to minimize my study time for English, because instead I want to spend my time doing things worthwhile to my career (such as external programming, engineering courses). I am planning to heavily lean into spending a majority of my study time on maths and physics, but chem and English I am not so keen on.

My current plan is to only study English once per week and do the BARE minimum to get like a 75 for trials and HSC, same goes for physics and chemistry but just on weekdays instead. I want to be studying about 15 hours a week on maths, but idk what is recommended for my position in 4U.

BTW, I have completed all of the maths content, and I just need to do trial papers now to improve.

Thanks :) :) :) :)

totally random but you are aware that english WILL count towards ur atar regardless right?
its your 8 best units + 2 units of english, they say 10 best but thats a lie

so to gain a 80-85 i reckon you should put in a little effort in english

Yes I know... but... 😭😭

This is the estimated ATAR for a 55 in English, 80 in Physics and Chem, and 90 in MX1 and MX2:

Maybe??????

I am aiming for higher (in English, not ATAR) but it'll be good enough for me (hopefully 🤞)

this is not meant as an insult just some stuff to think abt

you are on 10 units and the subjects that you have picked apart from english are all objectively hard. so you have to recognise that there is a possibility that you might not reach the 80s and 90s for the rest of your subjects. this is not specific to you btw and is not an insult to your intelligence bc it applies to everyone sitting the hsc. you dont know whats going to happen in between now and the hsc. so because of this aiming extremely low and putting in very little into english adv will cost you very dearly if you somehow fall short in your other subjects.

i honestly respect the wanting to put effort into things for your future career as opposed to atar and i also respect the prioritisation bc thats your choice but just from a stangers perspective and based on my knowledge of how hsc marks are calculated your estimated 85+ may or may not end up that way if you manage to bomb a whole subject. if youre really hung up on an 85+ i wouldnt do this type of thing but mayeb you cn pull it off for an 80-85.

i wonder what rank your school is, what ranks you are currently and how many band 6s your school get each year bc maybe your plan might work out kind of better than expected if youre in a decently ranked school and you fall into the mid band 6 range for both your maths and maybe close to b6 for your sciences.
