4 wont get you anywhere either. A minimum of 6 should be attempted. Go for all 8 if you have the time, a mark over 100 should be your aim. If you succeed in doing that you ll be like top 10 in the state.

In answer to your question, no, but it is really up to you to carefully manage the 3 hours that you have to attempt the 8 questions.

any idea on the approximate mark needed to attain 90%+ as your hsc mark?

I'd say if you want 90 for HSC 4u, you should be aiming for at least 80/120 raw. Our test last year was fairly abstract (which equates to more difficult), so easier ones require a higher raw mark to get 90. That said, I think that this years test will also be equally abstract.

50% raw would put you around the middle (ranking wise), unless if the exam is really hard/abstract and the average raw mark was way below a pass.

i guess that means ur definetly in top 10 in the state jennifer.
(She got 118/120 in our school trial, and this is at a selective high school, where average was about 50%. She also did previous hsc papers and got over 90% RAW MARK... and this is b4 all the crazy hsc study)!

WELL DONE!

2005 was easy until you got to the question 8 conics bashing. After that, it was just mostly algebra which wasn't so hard in the cold light of day.

In a hard year yes, in an easy year, probably not.

Yeah, good luck with that. Doing past papers does NOT tell you how you'll go on the day. To be perfectly honest. The odds of getting top 10 are minimal. ALOT of people can get those kind of marks [90% plus in past HSC]. Probably up to 20 people.

FOCUS: It doesn't matter what your HSC mark is. UAC scales 4-unit so that if you beat around 2/5 people in 4 unit, you get better than or equal to 90 in 2 unit maths. This means even a mark of 70 something in 4 unit is still mad.
